They can be dated to the 10th and on Gotland until the end of the century. Some finds are from Poland and England, some from Bernstein of which exist. There are many different forms of hammer-amulets, z. B. the mallet. For the transitional period between pagan and Christian faith in Scandinavia amulets were found that could potentially represent a response to the Christian cross. In fact, the findings have been mostly found in graves of females, and are more likely with fertility rites and marriage dedications in conjunction.
